Sam WorthenPosition: Coach
There are few basketball coaches who have done, experienced, and seen more than Sam Worthen. From the blacktops of Brooklyn and Rucker Park to the hardwood at Marquette University to courts in the NBA, CBA, USBL, IBL, MAAC, and NBDL, Worthen has over four decades of experience in the game, which he will be bringing to the Washington Generals as the team makes its triumphant return to the floor after a brief hiatus.
A second-round NBA pick of the Chicago Bulls in 1980 after an all-American campaign at Marquette, where he led the Warriors to the Sweet 16 as a junior. After stints with the Bulls and Utah Jazz, Worthen went on to star with in a number of basketball leagues as both a player, as well as a coach - honing the chops which would serve him later in his career.
The 59-year-old Worthen has also been instrumental in his New York City community, helping grow the game on a grassroots level. He has spent time with youth groups such as the Bronx YMCA Basketball Program, the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, as well as a number of basketball camps and recreational facilities in the New York metropolitan area.
